Clothing
~Keep it simple
- For family sessions, avoid printed t-shirts advertising Nike or other brands.
- Solids look great.
- Long sleeves/pants are often more slimming and attractive.
- Reds rarely look great if worn by the whole group.
- All whites are very popular but don’t produce the best results.
- Avoid being too matchy-matchy
- Remove all keys/wallets from your pockets (they are rarely flattering and nearly always visible)
- Remove any hair bands, elastics from wrists
- Eyeglasses generally have a lot of glare so if you are willing; remove your glasses before beginning a shoot.
- Take the time to iron any clothes. Wrinkles WILL show!
- Don’t stress too much about the clothing. The people are what is important. If you end up with a photo you love but are not crazy the colors your family was wearing, you can always turn it to black and white.
Socks
Wear longer socks so that when you sit down and your pants creep up, your leg is not revealed. That can really distract from the photo. Darker socks always look better than bright multi-colored.
Hair
Get any cuts & colors done at least week prior to the shoot. You need time to get used to the hair cut and time for the color to settle in.
